भारतीय वायु सेना की स्थापना 8 अक्टूबर, १९३२ को ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य द्वारा देश में की गई थी। पहला ऑपरेशनल स्क्वाड्रन अप्रैल 1933 में अस्तित्व में आया।

भारत में वायु सेना को आधिकारिक तौर पर १९३२ में यूनाइटेड किंगडम की शाही वायु सेना के सहायक बल के रूप में स्थापित किया गया था। तब से हर साल इस दिवस को भारतीय वायु सेना दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा। 'भारतीय वायु सेना' के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, भारतीय वायु सेना की स्थापना 8 अक्टूबर, १९३२ को ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य द्वारा देश में की गई थी।

कुम्भरापाड़ा - पुरी - ओडिशा में इस मॉडल को सास्वत रंजन साहू (+३ यर वर्ष का छात्र) बनाकर भारतीय वायु सेना के हमारे सैनिकों को मेरा सम्मान देता है। भारतीय वायु सेना दिवस का इतिहास वेस्टलैंड वैपिटी वेस्टलैंड वैपिटी १९२०  के दशक का एक ब्रिटिश दो-सीट सामान्य-उद्देश्य सैन्य एकल-इंजन वाला बाइप्लेन था। इसे रॉयल एयर फ़ोर्स सर्विस में Airco DH.9A को बदलने के लिए वेस्टलैंड एयरक्राफ्ट वर्क्स द्वारा डिज़ाइन और निर्मित किया गया था।

१९२७  में पहली उड़ान, १९२८  में वैपिटी ने आरएएफ के साथ सेवा में प्रवेश किया, और १९३२  तक उत्पादन में रहा, कुल ५६५  का निर्माण किया गया। इसने आरएएफ के बीस स्क्वाड्रनों को सुसज्जित किया, दोनों विदेशी (विशेष रूप से भारत और इराक में) और घर पर, १९४०  तक आरएएफ सेवा में बने रहे, साथ ही ऑस्ट्रेलिया, कनाडा, दक्षिण अफ्रीका और भारत की वायु सेना द्वारा उपयोग किया जा रहा था।
